Solar Power for your Wedding

These days, using solar power for all of life’s endeavors has become very popular. With the impact that burning fossil fuels has on the environment, many people have looked elsewhere for their power solutions. There are a growing number of people who are living “off grid” or completely carbon-neutral, so the concept of using solar power for your wedding is becoming more and more attractive. However, unlike in a fixed location where making a long term investment is a reasonable concept and will actually benefit you financially, most weddings are held in a temporary location where you’ll need to bring in your own equipment. There are a few options that are available depending on your situation, and here are a couple of those options.

Buying a Portable Solar Power System

Your first option if you want to use solar power for your wedding is to buy a portable system. This will include the entire kit that you’ll need to power something the size of a wedding including solar panels, batteries, and a charging unit. Buying a portable solar power system can be rather expensive, so this option really only makes sense if you have other uses for a solar power system in mind or really don’t worry about how much money you spend.

Renting a Portable Solar Power System

This is one of the most popular choices for couples who are on a budget. With so much demand for solar-based power systems these days, you are bound to be able to find a local place to rent a system large enough to handle an event the size of a wedding. Renting a solar power system is much cheaper than purchasing, plus it will allow you to have money left over to buy things like large wedding sparklers that will make your experience more fun. Plus, you won’t need to come up with all sorts of random excuses to use your solar power system and ultimately need to dispose of the acid in the sealed batteries.

Using Battery Power

Lastly, you always have the option of charging up some batteries using an existing solar power system and bringing the batteries along to your wedding. This can be the most cost-effective way to go if your or someone you know already has a complete solar power system setup. The downside to using this method is that you not only need to haul all of those batteries to your wedding and back. But you also run the risk of running out of power too soon and needing to find an alternative source (which defeats the purpose). This option should only be used if you are on an extremely tight budget or the wedding location is so remote that you have no other choice.

Regardless of how you intend to harness solar power to light up you wedding, you can rest soundly knowing that you’re doing something good for the environment. By being part of the solution rather than contributing to the problem, you are ensuring that future generations will be able to celebrate their weddings in the same way you did and that feels good on a completely different level.
