Solar energy can be utilized in a large variety of locations. However, there are adjustments to be made before you can install your solar panels. You want to make certain you have the optimum installation space and have researched your solar energy situation before investing your money and time in a lifetime of savings.

#1- The sun must be able to reach you home.

The sun is the major tool used in solar energy. The first step is to inspect your own grounds to see how much sun reaches your home on average. If your home is covered mostly in shade it will be difficult to collect any energy. Any exposed tree branches or other shading devices will inhibit your efforts. Another step to take is to research how many watts of sun on average reaches your location. This information can be found locally. Finally, calculate how much energy you use on average. This can be done by consulting your previous utility bills or by reading your meter. The average household uses about 25kWh of energy daily. This does not mean you should consider this amount to be as much as your home will need.

#2- Make certain the solar panels can face the sun.

In order for solar panels to collect energy they must be able to directly face the sun. Most individuals place solar panels on the roof of their home. If the roof is flat, extra care must be taken to place them at the proper angle for the season. This information can also be found locally. Some individuals use free-standing solar panels. If your roof is shaded or is dangerous or difficult to work with, free-standing solar panels are ideal. However, the same rules still apply. The panels must be at an angle to collect the sun and be free of shade and debris. Solar panels require little maintenance, as there are no moving parts, but they do still require cleaning. Just like shade on the solar panels, anything else covering the surface will inhibit solar collection. Any dirt, leaves, debris, or snow must be regularly cleaned off to allow the solar panels to work.

#3 Decide whether or not to hook into the grid and if so, how to do it properly. It is a personal decision whether or not to hook into the electrical grid. Those who are not hooked into the grid are completely self-sufficient and will not be affected by power outages. At the same time, those not on the grid are completely responsible for themselves. If for some reason the panels malfunction, or enough energy isn’t stored, then there will be no electricity. If you do choose to hook into the grid, any extra energy can be sold back to the electric company for an extra profit. Also, if you do choose to hook into the grid, it is absolutely necessary that it be done properly and up to code. Extra instructions can be found to do this.

Eco-Couture: The Green Shows

Eco-fashion is not really fashion- at least that’s probably what most of us think. It conveys a message, usually with a sassy or informational phrase, but doesn’t show a sense of style or show your individuality. It shows you care about the environment, but not really your appearance. However, eco-friendly clothing is on the rise, and there are many places to purchase trendy clothes that are fashionable and cute. Last week we saw a great example of this in New York City.
