The Two Different Types of Solar Panels Available

No matter where you live, most people can benefit from solar panels. Even if you do not live in a highly sunny region, daylight is all that is needed for the panels to generate energy. On days where the sun is not out as much, the panel can still bring in some amount of electricity.

There are two types of solar panels with different functions. Both can be installed for optimal energy efficiency.

Photovoltaic Solar Panels

Most people think about this type of solar panel when they are envisioning photovoltaic (PV) solar panels. These are used specifically to power your home.

Solar Thermal

The other type of panel that is used is solar thermal. This type of technology allows you to heat up water in your home. That also helps you to reduce your energy bills.

Where Should Panels Be Placed?

In order to get the best use of your solar panels, they should be installed on the south facing side of your roof. Those that have southwest or west facing roofs, you can get some benefit, although it may be less than those with south facing roofs.

Check Into Having Your Home Graded For Energy Efficiency

Before you have panels installed on your home, you should check to see if you can have your home graded for its energy efficiency. Depending on your rating and the area you live, you might be able to receive cash back for the energy that you receive through the panels.

Consider The Value Of Your Home

Depending on where you live and the real estate market, you may or may not be able to increase the value of your home. If you have installed panels on your home and it generates energy, it could make your property more attractive to potential buyers.

Using solar energy is worth the investment, but it could take quite some time to re-coop the costs that you put into it. Keep that in mind when you are having them installed.
